and Katherine's squad set the tone early — sage robes, champagne, balloons spelling BRIDE, and laughter that didn't stop all day. Morning coverage is where a wedding gallery earns its warmth: these are the hours when everyone's still in their robes, the excitement is building, and nobody's performing for a camera yet. My approach is to blend in, keep the energy natural, and catch the friendships as they actually are. The Redhurst's rooms gave us lovely light and space for it all. The groom's morning deserves the same care as the bride's — and Scott's prep at the Redhurst Hotel delivered: his dad straightening the bow tie, both of them laughing, the boys toasting with a beer by the window. Fathers and sons don't often stand this close or say this much, and a wedding morning brings it all to the surface. I split my morning coverage between both camps whenever the timeline allows, because half the day's best stories happen before anyone reaches the ceremony. Grooms: your photos matter too, and I promise it's painless. Getting ready at the Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock? Get in touch and tell me about your day.

This joyful image was captured at Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock, on the south side of Glasgow — a fantastic wedding venue known for its warm atmosphere and elegant surroundings. The bridesmaids' first look reaction says it all — pure excitement and happiness as they see each other ready for the big day. These candid, in-between moments during the wedding morning are some of my favourites to capture, full of genuine emotion and laughter. Redhurst Hotel is a popular choice for Glasgow weddings, offering a beautiful and intimate setting. If you're planning your wedding there and are looking for a photographer who captures real moments, I'd love to hear from you.

Every single guest, one photograph — the full crowd of Katherine and Scott's wedding gathered at the Grand Ballroom entrance of the Redhurst Hotel. The everyone-shot takes organisation: I use the widest-angle lens for shots like this to get everybody in. Sometimes it distorts around the edges. That's why getting everyone tightly together makes the image stand out from the crowd. I get the couple in place, call the room out everyone together arrange fast make sure Uncle and Auntie aren't at the bar, and shoot before the smiles go stiff — five to ten minutes, done, back to the drinks. In thirty years this frame will be priceless: every person who came, together, once. My advice to every couple: put the big group photo on your must-have list and trust your photographer to make it quick. Planning a wedding at the Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock? Deep green satin beside grey-and-green tartan — Katherine and Scott's colour scheme was made for photographs, and the Redhurst Hotel's garden courtyard showed it off perfectly. Big bridal party photographs work best with a light touch: quick arrangements, plenty of chat, and shooting through the laughter between the "proper" frames — because the in-between shots are usually the winners. A styling tip from this day for anyone planning: rich, deep colours photograph beautifully against the Redhurst's pale garden walls, and matching the bridesmaids to the tartan ties the whole gallery together. A quiet moment before the ceremony at Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock, just outside Glasgow — the bride wrapped in a group hug from her bridesmaids, who wore deep olive-green satin against the soft white of her gown and bouquet. Morning prep is where a wedding day's nerves and excitement sit closest together, and moments like this happen on their own; there's nothing to direct, only to notice.
This was my first wedding at Redhurst Hotel, and its light-filled bridal suite made these early hours a pleasure to photograph. A relaxed, unhurried approach lets couples and their closest people simply be together, which is exactly where the honest, in-between photographs come from.

There's a moment on every wedding morning that needs no direction at all: the mother of the bride seeing her daughter fully ready for the first time. Katherine's mum, in her deep green, taking in her girl in lace — I photographed it from across the room with a long lens, close enough to catch it, far enough never to break it. These are the frames that grow more precious with every passing year, and knowing that is exactly why I photograph mornings the way I do: quietly, patiently, always watching the people around the bride as much as the bride herself. Planning your wedding at the Redhurst Hotel in Glasgow? Get in touch — and make sure your mum's in the room for this bit.

Right in the middle of their Redhurst Hotel ceremony, Katherine and Scott raised a drink together — a toast to seal the deal, with the whole room grinning behind them. Celebrant-led ceremonies like theirs, with Marion McGinness of Life Moments Ceremonies guiding the day, leave room for personal touches exactly like this one — and personal touches make the best photographs. The petal-lined aisle, the candles, the laughter: their ceremony felt like them from the first minute. If you're planning a ceremony with its own traditions and twists at the Redhurst Hotel in Glasgow, brilliant — tell me what's coming so I'm in position when it does. Get in touch.

A dip, a kiss, and Katherine's red hair catching the light in the Redhurst Hotel's garden courtyard. Moves like this only work when a couple is completely relaxed — and after an engagement shoot and a legal ceremony together, Katherine and Scott trusted me enough to just go for it. The courtyard at the Redhurst is a quiet gift for portraits: soft planting, clean bright walls and that ivy-wrapped arch, all a minute's walk from the celebrations. Ten relaxed minutes out here gave them a full set of couple portraits without missing any of their party. Getting married at the Redhurst Hotel in Glasgow? This is what the end of a great wedding looks like: glow sticks in the air, the band in full swing, and Katherine leading the charge across the Redhurst Hotel dance floor. Dance floor coverage is pure documentary — fast, colourful, unpredictable — and it's some of my favourite work of any wedding, because this is the day with its tie loosened. Couples sometimes ask if evening coverage is worth it. Look at this frame: your gallery shouldn't end at the first dance, because your wedding doesn't. The Redhurst's ballroom, with its lighting rig and proper floor, throws a party worth photographing to the last song. Get in touch and let's plan your night.

The Grand Ballroom lights low, the floor to themselves, and Katherine and Scott's first dance at the Redhurst Hotel — her gown catching the glow, his kilt swinging, the room packed around the edges. Evening light is the technical exam of a wedding day: mixed colours, movement, and no second chances. My editorial training carries it — shaping light so the couple stay beautifully lit while the room keeps its atmosphere. And once the first dance ended, the night truly began: band on, glow sticks out, and a dance floor that Katherine and Scott led from the front all night. Katherine and Scott, I photographed three times — their engagement shoot, their legal ceremony, and then the big celebration at the Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock, on Glasgow's south side. When a couple comes back twice after the first shoot, that tells you everything a review ever could. By the time the big day arrived, there were no nerves in front of my camera — just two people completely at ease, which is exactly when the best photographs happen.
And what a day they built. A petal-lined aisle and candlelight for the ceremony. Katherine's red hair against her lace gown. Scott and his men in Highland dress, the bridesmaids in deep green, and a walled garden courtyard made for portraits. Then the Grand Ballroom filled to the doors, a first dance under the lights, and a dance floor that went off like a rocket — glow sticks and all.
"Derek is one of the best photographers in the business in my opinion. He photographed our engagement shoot, our legal ceremony and our big wedding, and we couldn't be happier with the photos. He is patient and gives great direction. He makes everyone feel totally at ease and we had so many of our family and friends compliment him and his style. Could not recommend him highly enough." — Katherine & Scott
That line about making everyone feel at ease is the one I work hardest for. Patient direction that never feels like posing — it's the heart of how I photograph every wedding, and it's why camera-shy couples end up loving their galleries.
The Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock gives a Glasgow wedding the best of both worlds: the Grand Ballroom for the big moments — that full-guest photograph at its entrance is a keeper for any couple — and the garden courtyard outside for relaxed portraits, with its ivy-wrapped arch, soft planting and clean walls that make couples glow in any light. Morning preparations at the hotel come with lovely window light, and the evening turns the ballroom into a proper party room.
From this day alone: the bridesmaids in their sage robes with champagne, Katherine's mum seeing her in the dress, Scott and his dad sorting bow ties, a flower girl stealing scenes, a dip kiss in the courtyard, and family hugs on the dance floor that no one posed and no one will forget.
