This image captures everything that makes documentary wedding photography so powerful. The ceremony has just ended, the register is signed, and in this single unguarded moment — surrounded by family and friends — a bride and groom share their very first embrace as a married couple. No posing, no direction. Just a real, raw, joyful moment, caught exactly as it happened.
This is what I come for at every wedding I photograph. Enterkine House — One of Ayrshire's Most Stunning Wedding Venues
Enterkine House is one of Ayrshire's most beautiful and intimate wedding venues — a stunning country house hotel set in 300 acres of woodland and parkland near Annbank, just outside Ayr. Its elegant interiors, warm candlelit ceremony rooms, and sweeping grounds make it one of the finest backdrops for wedding photography in the whole of Scotland.
I've had the privilege of photographing a number of weddings at Enterkine House, and it never disappoints. The light through those tall windows during a civil ceremony is extraordinary — and moments like this one are exactly why.
Ayrshire Wedding Photography by Derek Dunlop Based in Troon, South Ayrshire, I'm an internationally recognised wedding photographer with seven front covers and seven years of experience capturing weddings across Scotland and the UK. My approach is documentary and natural — I work quietly in the background so that moments like this one can happen without anyone noticing the camera. If you're planning a wedding at Enterkine House, or anywhere else in Ayrshire or Scotland, I'd love to hear from you. Get in touch to check availability for your date.

There's no review, award or advert that means more than someone who knows you trusting you with their own family's biggest day. Walking behind him as he took his daughter down the aisle at Enterkine House — knowing he'd chosen me to be there — is a memory I'll keep.
And what a day to be trusted with. A lovely couple, a room full of love, and the kind of easy joy that makes my job feel like anything but work.
Enterkine House sits near Annbank, just outside Ayr — a country house set in 300 acres of private woodland, and one of Ayrshire's most elegant wedding venues. The ceremony space is a beauty to photograph: oak beams, soft green walls and huge windows pulling the woodland light inside. No flash needed, no interruptions — just the room as everyone experienced it.
This day gave me everything: the first kiss caught against that quiet green wall, the mother of the bride beaming in pink, flower girls with their baskets and flower crowns, and a full squad of groomsmen in blue tartan kilts lined up on the decking. Even the details worked hard — whisky barrels, pampas grass and a grand mirror making the perfect backdrop. And when the evening came, a first dance full of laughter under the oak beams, the bride swept clean off her feet.
I'm proud to be on Enterkine House's recommended supplier list — the venue's own endorsement of photographers they trust with their couples. Knowing the team and knowing the house means I arrive on your wedding day already knowing where the light falls, which corners photograph beautifully, and how the day flows here. That knowledge buys you time and calm — two things every wedding day can use more of.
Here's some straight talk you won't find on many photographers' websites. At this Enterkine wedding, the couple wanted one thing above all: to enjoy their party. So our portrait time was short — we stepped out briefly, made some lovely images, and got them straight back to their guests. Would I have loved twenty more minutes up in the fields with that woodland behind them? Of course. But it wasn't my day. It was theirs.
That's my philosophy on portraits, and it's worth knowing before you book any photographer. Some couples want an hour of portraits and images that belong on a gallery wall — brilliant, I'll plan the timeline for it. Some want ten minutes and a full dance floor — equally brilliant. Both get my whole craft; the choice of how your time is spent is always yours. A good photographer delivers beautiful photographs within whatever time you give them, and never guilts you out of your own party.
I'm based in Troon, twenty minutes from Enterkine's front door, named one of the Top 20 Wedding Photographers in the UK by Wedding & Honeymoon Magazine — and I'm on the venue's own recommended supplier list. Whether you want a full portrait session in those 300 acres or just the party captured as it happens, get in touch and tell me about your day.
