The dads and the groom, mid-laugh, about an hour before the ceremony. Nobody arranged this — I just stayed close while they blethered, and the moment arrived on its own. Men at weddings often relax the second they think the photos haven't started yet. The secret is that with me, they never really start; I'm just there, and things like this get caught along the way. Photographs of the generations together matter enormously as the years pass. If the important men in your life are the type who'd never pose for a picture, this is how I'll photograph them anyway.
