This couple had their vows led by a church minister, right there in the Rooftop Conservatory at the Gailes Hotel — and it's worth knowing that's possible, because plenty of couples don't realise it. The Gailes is licensed for both civil and religious ceremonies, which means you can have a minister conduct your service in a hotel setting rather than a church, with all the meaning of a religious ceremony and none of the travelling between venues.
For me as the photographer, religious ceremonies bring their own rhythm: more structure, more stillness, and moments of real weight. I photograph them quietly and respectfully — no flash, minimal movement, and always a word with the celebrant beforehand about where I can and can't be. That conversation takes two minutes and makes the whole ceremony run smoother.
If you're planning a religious ceremony at the Gailes Hotel in Irvine, or anywhere in Ayrshire, I've photographed enough of them to know how to stay invisible while still catching everything that matters. Get in touch and tell me what you're planning.
