A bride and her reflection in the bridal suite at Fairfield House Hotel in Ayr — dressed, veiled, and taking a last look before the day properly began.
Mirror portraits are a favourite of mine because they give you two views of the same person in one frame: the composed one she's showing the room, and the quieter one only the mirror sees. It takes a bit of positioning — you have to keep yourself out of the glass while still finding the angle where both faces read clearly — but the result is worth the fuss.
The light in Fairfield's bridal suite is lovely for this, soft and even, and the tartan on the walls gives the whole frame a Scottish sense of place without shouting about it.
I knew this couple before the wedding — the bride is the daughter of a friend — which meant no awkward warming-up period at all. We just got on with it. If you'd like an Ayrshire wedding photographer who feels like a guest rather than a stranger with a camera, get in touch.
