Arms in the air, room in bits — a father's speech reaching cruising altitude. A wee tip for anyone giving a wedding speech: stand where you can see the couple, speak to them rather than the room, and don't rush the pauses, because the pauses are where the reactions live. Photographically, the pauses are where I live too — they're when hands go up, heads tip back and frames like this happen. I photograph every speaker through their full arc, from nervous first line to triumphant finish. This gentleman's finish, as you can see, was operatic. The room was full of vibes and energy that wedding day in Ayrshire.
