Veil airborne, arms up, the party hitting its stride. A question every bride quietly asks: keep the veil on for the dancing or take it off? My answer from behind the camera — keep it for the first few songs. A veil in motion is one of the most dramatic things a dance floor photograph can hold, as this frame demonstrates, and you can hand it to your maid of honour once the ceilidh gets dangerous. The starlit floor at Brig o' Doon lights dancers from below, which makes flying fabric glow. Physics, fabric and a good tune. Magic.
This incredible first dance moment was captured at Brig o' Doon in Alloway, Ayrshire — one of Scotland's most iconic and romantic wedding venues, set in the heart of Robert Burns country. The groom sweeps his bride off her feet in a moment of pure joy on the dance floor, surrounded by the warm glow of fairy lights. Brig o' Doon is a venue I have had the privilege of photographing on several occasions, including a front cover feature for Ayrshire Magazine. It is a truly special setting that brings out the very best in wedding photography and I would love to capture more weddings here.
