The ceilidh in full flight — kilts spinning, dresses flying, and the American guests flung enthusiastically into Strip the Willow with no survivors. A ceilidh is the best welcome-to-Scotland a visiting family can get, and photographing one is a contact sport: I work inside the dance, low and close, catching the whirl and the laughter from the middle of it. Fast movement in marquee lighting is technically demanding, and I love it. If you're bringing overseas guests to a Scottish wedding, book the ceilidh band. The photographs of their faces mid-spin are worth the fee alone.
