Bride and Groom in Kilt at Carlowrie Castle, Edinburgh

This was one of those quiet seconds between the bigger parts of the day. Nobody was asking them to do anything. They just turned to each other, and I was ready.

I was second shooting at Carlowrie Castle for Isaac Craig Photography in summer 2026. That role gives you a different view of a wedding. While the lead photographer works closely with the couple, I'm free to look elsewhere. Guests, second angles during the ceremony, portraits of family and friends, and the small moments that tell the full story of the day.

Carlowrie sits just outside Kirkliston, on the west side of Edinburgh. The turrets, the ivy climbing the tower and the open lawn give you so many options for photos. Morning, midday or evening, there's good light somewhere on the grounds. Honestly, it's one of the best venues for photography I've visited.

The sky that afternoon was a mix of sun and soft cloud. The light was just right, so I kept it natural and let the moment do the work.

If you're weighing up whether you need a second photographer, this is why it helps. You get both sides of your day, not just the parts you were standing in.

I'm based in Ayrshire and photograph weddings across Scotland, including Edinburgh.

Location: Carlowrie Castle, Kirkliston, Edinburgh EH29 9ES.
