A still, unhurried moment in the gardens at Fairfield House in Ayr — the bride and her kilted groom pausing for a quiet kiss on a path framed by greenery, her veil and bouquet catching the soft light. Couple portraits work best when they don't feel like a performance, and this one happened in the space between everything else on the day.
Fairfield House sits just back from Ayr's seafront, and its mature, sheltered gardens give couples a green, private setting only a few steps from the building — ideal when you want portraits without travelling away from your guests. The leafy path here created a natural frame, drawing the eye straight to the couple.
This was shot on natural light alone, no flash or reflector. The day's soft, even light suited a black and white edit, which strips away any distraction from the surroundings and keeps the focus where it belongs — on the two of them and the quiet connection between them. For a moment this gentle, monochrome feels more honest than colour ever would.
It was a privilege to photograph this wedding — the daughter of a work colleague — and to spend the day among such a warm, welcoming family. The atmosphere was relaxed and full of good feeling from start to finish, which always shows in the photographs.
This was also my first time shooting at Fairfield House, and like every venue I photograph for the first time, the fresh perspective only sharpened my eye for its best corners — including this one.
